About Us /

Director´s Message

For forty years, Colegio Albania has strived to create an excellent educational environment for our students. We intend to enhance the abilities of each student by maximizing their academic, artistic and sports potential.

We encourage students to practice good values and principles, to form future leaders who act with responsibility and global awareness; Our fundamental values being responsibility, honesty, autonomy, equality and respect.

Colegio Albania (CoAlba), a mixed, bilingual (Spanish – English) educational institution, was established in 1983 for the children of the community of the Carbones del Cerrejón mining company, in La Guajira, Colombia.

We are a calendar B school (August to June) serving students ages three to eleven (grade 11 in the Colombian system is equivalent to grade 12 in the US).

Our affiliation with global organizations such as the International Baccalaureate and Cognia help us ensure that our students receive cutting-edge pedagogy at an institution that meets the highest standards. The motto of the Albania School taken from our school hymn “Together we light the way”; communicates our aspirational goal of inspiring our students to be change leaders who can positively impact the world around them both now and in the future.

I am proud to participate in the CoAlba community where students from different regions of Colombia come together to learn, grow and share in a wide variety of activities and experiences. A place where teachers are aware of the responsibility we have to ensure the emotional and social well-being of our students. A school where students can enjoy their childhood and adolescence with a generous and adventurous spirit!

CoAlba strongly aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) principles and methodology and as such we have been IB certified in the Diploma Program since 2010, the Middle Years Program since 2011 and the Primary Years Program since 2015.

We share the principles underlying the IB philosophy that students should have the opportunity to direct their own learning paths by developing the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life’s projects. The IB offers opportunities for our teachers to collaborate with committed colleagues backed by a strong global network that empowers them as architects of learning.

We have also obtained accreditation from Cognia, an organization that certifies and guides us in compliance with the highest international standards.
